Coblation is a new technology, which uses a handheld device to deliver radio frequency energy into the skin through a saline medium. Saline is dripped over the skin while the surface is treated with an electrode. The electrode interacts with the saline to create a "plasma field," which transfers the energy in the form of heat into the skin. The heating of the skin stimulates the production of new collagen, which is what tightens the skin to remove the wrinkles. Brown spots and uneven skin tones would be improved as well. The surface layer of the skin is removed in the process. There is rarely any bleeding, but there can be some seepage of fluid from the surface of the skin for a couple of days. Healing time after Coblation is about 7 to 10 days with most patients being able to wear makeup at that time.

Initial results will be evident from the treatment within a few weeks; however, the final results of Coblation will take up to 6 months to fully develop. In our experience, the results of Coblation have been good and the recovery time is much shorter than with laser resurfacing and strong chemical peels. You can expect to experience some degree of redness of the skin, but this would generally be much less than is seen with lasers and strong chemical peels. The redness of the skin typically resolves within 6 weeks of treatment.
