As we age, our faces lose volume due to fat atrophy and collagen loss. This results in a drooping of the lower facial tissue, causing a squaring effect which makes our faces look heavier and older. By replacing the lost volume, the face is lifted and a more youthful appearance is achieved. It is possible to reverse these changes by using an injectable filler such as Sculptra®.

Sculptra® is a synthetic injectable material known as poly-L-lactic acid. Poly-L-lactic acid is biocompatible (a material that does not harm the body) and biodegradable (able to be broken down by the body). Poly-L-lactic acid has been widely used for many years in dissolvable stitches, soft tissue implants, and other types of implants.

Sculptra® is injected into the facial tissues for restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial aging and fat loss (lipoatrophy). Sculptra® has been clinically proven to be an effective, well-tolerated, and long-lasting treatment for the signs of facial lipoatrophy.

Sculptra® stimulates the production of your own collagen which provides a gradual, natural-looking, youthful appearance. Sculptra® presents an exciting option in that it produces immediate results and requires minimal recovery time. It is administered in the office, using topical and local anesthetic. Side effects are minimal and may include occasional, temporary bruising and/or slight swelling. The results of the treatments should last about two years. A series of 2 to 3 treatments, spaced 8-12 weeks apart is required for best results.
