Brow Lift

Endoscopic techniques are used through small incisions in the scalp to position the eyebrows to a more youthful position. With endoscopic brow lifts, the need for an extended incision across the scalp is eliminated. There is also no need to remove large segments of scalp as was done in the past with the coronal brow lift technique.*

The principle on which endoscopic brow lifts are based is a change in the balance of action between the muscles which lift and the muscles that depress the brows. Since gravity is on the side of the depressors, it is understandable that with time the brows will begin to sag. With endoscopic technique, we lessen the strength of the depressor muscles and thus create an advantage for the lifters, which results in an elevated brow position. This lifting effect is supported with several internal sutures placed underneath the scalp area.*

The results of an endoscopic brow lift are a natural repositioning of the eyebrows to a more youthful position. It does not create a surprised look as is often seen with a coronal brow lift, which is based on a principle of pulling up the forehead and removing a segment of the scalp. The endoscopic brow lift in our experience has not affected the frontal hairline position adversely. With the older technique of coronal brow lifting, it was possible to see the frontal hairline position change as much as an inch or so. This often resulted in a high forehead in addition to the surprised look. Many surgeons have altered the coronal brow lift to move the incision along the frontal hairline in an attempt to avoid the elevation of the frontal hairline but this has the possibility of an exposed scar if the hair is worn in a swept back style.*

Our preferred technique for brow lift is the limited incision endoscopic technique for the reasons stated above. The initial stage of recovery for a brow lift is about 7 to 10 days. A brow lift can be done alone or may be combined with other procedures such as eyelid and facelift surgeries.*
